I have recently been looking though all my favourite videos on youtube and came across the 2010 opening of the Ralph Lauren Flagship store on 888 Madison Avenue. It was in celebration of ten years of digital innovation. It was a 4d experience fusing fashion, art and technology and was highly praised as this show seemed to have pushed the boundaries of fashion. However the show was heavily criticised for it’s cost and the fact that it will attract more rich tourism to an already busy street. Personally it seems that there are always designer stores popping up on the upper east side, especially in Madison Avenue and it is becoming more and more competitive to promote stores. This 4d extravaganza seems like a massive publicity stunt more then anything but it has fused art, fashion and technology together which I admire greatly. The display itself was a visual feast as the eye popping animation was dramatically beautiful. The 7 minute video sequence managed to promote all aspects of the heritage brand;fragrance, clothing, runway, sport an home wear. This in my opinion was very clever and technologically ground breaking.
Overall I think I achieved the brief for the audio assessment. In my interview with Niall Cotrell I thought I edited the sequence well as it flowed without any breaks. However at one part the audio (1:40sec) was slightly jagged. I could have rectified this by re recording that question but due to time constraints I could not do so. I also learnt for future I should not record in a room that echoes as it makes the audio slightly unclear when playing back. During the end of February was London Fashion Week when my audio interview with Niall about the Burberry Prorsum spring summer 2012 was posted, this made it current newsworthy story as people would be blogging, posting and searching about the show- this fulfilled the brief.
In my last audio piece ‘What are the students of Westminster’s favourite item of clothing?‘ I explored what the students of Westminster favourite item of clothing is. Editing the numerous box pops and interweaving them with backing music definitely was a challenged for me as it took me a while to get used to the editing equipment. I also found that our zoom kit was very temperamental which did make interview recording a slight challenge. However I would say that this pieces lacks it news relevance as my piece was not a current choice of topic in media, but it is relevant to the students of Westminster. I also used Crystal Castles music for the backing track, this would bring up an issue of copyright. But I used this music as i thought it evoked the trendy, current and youth of fashion in Westminster campus.
Through out the audio assessments I have least how to use audacity and upload aduios files to blogs which will be very useful for future projects and for my other blogs that I run. I have also learnt how to use zoom kits, which will be useful for interviewing or recording other audio pieces for other projects.
My aim for these video pieces was to explore whether achieving size zero is still a strong trend agmonst the youth of today. My other aim was to post a video diary exploring my views on size zero and to reflect on my finding during the recording process.
My topic of choice I thought was quite a newsworthy topic, as the size zero debate has been around for a decade but got in the media headlines around 2005. I thought it would be interesting to revisit the current state of the trend and see what the average youth would say about it. My video was primarily focused on the women’s point of view as when I interviewed the men they didn’t seem affected by the subject, which wouldn’t of been sufficient content to put into my piece.
During my project I learnt how to use final cut pro, which at first I found very complicated but soon I was able to edit on a standard level. This will help me with future projects and for future videos I many record for my personal blog.I though my video atheistically looked professional as I used text to name the write the profession of each interviewer on the video and thought the piece flowed well as each sequence was well edited together.
To improve my piece I would of preferably interviewed not just students but people in the fashion industry such as models, model agents, designers or an editor of a magazine. This would of given a wider, more objective opinion rather then people in Harrow. It would of also given credibility to my video piece which I would of ideally liked.
Over the years the media attention on being size 0 has been a main topic of the fashion industry. Around 2005 celebrities weight and fad diets took a spotlight in the british press- causing women and men to care even more about their weight. I want to explore whether the trend of being size 0 is still there or if it has faded out. I will do this by interviewing people about their opinions in size 0 and whether it is a strong trend.
After I interview people about whether size 0 s still a growing trend, I will do a video diary to discuss my findings of the day.I will also reflect on what people say about size 0 and in my opinion if it is a growing or diminishing trend.
Since my blog primarily focuses on fashion trends, I want to interview the students of westminster about their personal style and see what trends, if any, they follow and why. With my first piece I want to interview someone who doesn’t study fashion, but music or photography as I want to see what types of style are around on campus.
For my second audio piece I want to interview Niall Cottrell. He won a ticket to see the see the exclusive Burberry Prorsum spring summer 2012 show. It is a hot topic of news when it will be posted as it is during London fashion Week so I think it will be a reverent fashion piece to my blog.
For my last piece I want to interview a range of students around Westminster Campus on their favourite item of clothing. This i think this will be an interesting piece as it is very personal to students of Westminster making it relevant fashion news locally.
After interviewing Westminster students about the size zero trend I decided to record my opinion on the size zero debate and reflect on my findings during interviewing. Am I shocked? Surprised? Or do I agree? Take a look and find out.
Is it worth it? Everyday the media saturate the press with images of skinny celebrities that are seen to have the ‘perfect’ body. Over the last couple of years there has been a fascination with fad diets to achieve this, however I am asking Westminster students if being size zero is a current trend or a trend of the past…
Over the years we have all come to love Sex and the City. Whether you followed all the falling in love and heartbreak of the awesome foursome: Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte in the HBO series or the two phenomenal films that followed. You could say that SITC was apart of my childhood and you would think that the newly announced series ‘The Carrie Diaries’ starring Anna Sophia Rob would make me want to down a cosmopolitan in excitement. But, you would be very mistaken. To me it seems like producers are trying to over commercialise and generate more and more money out of the franchise, but it looks like it will tarnish the reputation of Sex and the City. It is a shame that we are living in an age of television that needs to suck the life out of classic TV series that has shaped the relationships of many couples. I highly doubt that the new cast of the news series will fill the boots of the original cast- but I am intrigued to watch and find out!
